I would like to pose the following comments and invite your feedback:
Student and graduate work can often be abstracted from reality. It may be idealistic, narrow minded, short sighted and ill conceived, or in the words of O.C. "non-exceptional and non-conceptual".
Should design courses have a greater relevance to the commercial world, or will 'academic' pursuits such as business, marketing, finance, engineering, distribution etc only serve to dull the creative spark?
What should be done differently in design education, or is there not really an issue here?
Thanks for your interest, |

I have absalutely no idea lol!
Unlike business studies marketing etc completeing a design course does not necessarily make you a good designer, as it can't all be taught from a text book like many others can, design also includes personal creativity and imagination whether it be interior, graphic or Jewellery, you need to have the creative talent to succeed, sure you may have all the text book knowledge but it's not going to help if you have no eye for colour or detail or if you just don't have the creative spark inside of you.
I have never taken a design course and i would like to think that my Jewellery Creations were good. |
